Tūī are unique to New Zealand and belong to the honeyeater family, which means they feed mainly on nectar from flowers of native plants such as the Kowhai. They will fly large distances for food which also helps with pollination. They have a beautiful sound incorporating bell-like notes with harsh clicks, barks, cackles and wheezes.
